Since 1886, Finsia has played a pivotal role in raising industry standards and building the professional capability of financial services professionals.
Our history can be traced back to the first meeting of the Australian Institute of Banking & Finance (AIBF) on 21 July 1886 when more than 250 bankers gathered at an inaugural meeting to promote "the dissemination of professional knowledge and sound banking practice". The establishment of the Securities Institute of Australia in 1966 was similarly driven by the need to build professionalism within the stockbroking industry. A merger of these two leading institutes in 2005 signalled a new era for financial services: one industry represented by a single professional association - Finsia.
Today as the only professional association representing the entire spectrum of financial services throughout Australia and New Zealand, Finsia's reach extends to more than 17,000 individual professionals working across the broad categories of banking, wealth management and capital markets. We continue to play a vital role through our core purpose of promoting professionalism across the financial services industry.
Finsia advances our members' careers, connects them to leading insights and networks – and strengthens the financial services industry.
